Community Service

Community Service

The Guild participates in many community service projects. Some projects and recipients include: teddy bears, lap quilts and crocheted afghans for seniors in long term care facilities; toiletries for Family Haven clients; fleece blankets, quilts, toys, and books for children served by the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center; floor cushions for children at the Sulphur Springs Public Library; “Pink” cancer quilts for the Hopkins County Hospital; and lap quilts for our wounded heroes at the Intrepid Center in San Antonio.

Continuing a tradition of benevolence, monetary donations are given annually to various organizations. Agencies benefited include the Child Advocacy Center, Terrific Tuesdays, Family Haven of Hopkins County, HCMH Hospice, Sulphur Springs Public Library, the Senior Citizen's Center and the Veteran’s Memorial Wall of Hopkins County. During the Christmas season each year, local families are selected to receive quilts and other gifts donated by the Guild.

The guild also takes pride in honoring the military. In 2006, a patriotic quilt was given to a wounded soldier. Continuing the tradition, the families of soldiers serving in Iraq were honored with quilts and gifts both in 2007 and in 2008. The picture below shows U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Joe Cason as he presented our guild with a flag flown over Baghdad in Dec, 2007. He and his family were the 2007 receipents of the guild's military family honor.
